This is a reference point for my mother. I collected these reasons after talking to assorted Mac owners, fellow graphic design students, and professors and advisors in the department.
11 very good reasons why a Mac is highly recommended for a graphic designer, plus one superficial reason
1. Macs work better with graphic design programs. The computer does not freeze while extremely large applications are running, while PCs have a tendency to do so. There is better image quality; the images are crisper and the colors are more accurate from screen to print. It is also very rare that a Mac will crash, and it is usually only a program that will crash-- it will not take down the entire computer with it.
2. 80% of professional graphic designers use Macs, including both independent designers and those who work in a studio at a large company.
3. The computer labs at school in the art department contain all Macs. This means my files on my PC computer are not compatible with those computers.
4. Macs last at least twice as long as PCs; plus have far better resale value.
5. The computers in art studios at advertising companies, graphic design companies and other related companies are usually Macs. Macs are the power house in the graphic design world.
6. Nearly all of my classmates, plus all of my graphic design professors I've had so far all have Macs. My files are not compatible with their computers for class projects.
7. Macs are immune to nearly all viruses on the internet, plus have more decent virus protection.
8. At Foster Marketing Communications, I often had a hard time switching files between my computer and the office computer because all of their main computers were Macs. They were shocked that I have no Mac.
9. Macs are more capable of dealing with major animation and movie software which take up a huge amount of memory.
10. All of my graphic design professors recommend Macs for the graphic design program; plus it is also strongly recommended by the graphic design department advisors and heads.
11. When teachers in class discuss software, it is usually only software for the Mac platform, not PC. Therefore, I will have a harder time keeping up.
The last, and superficial reason, is that Macs are also prettier than PCs.
